Mary Gilbride

Devoted and proud mother, owned New England Survey

Mary L. (Susi) Gilbride a long time resident of East Boston, passed away on May 5 at the age of 90.

Mary was a devoted and proud mother as well as a successful business owner, owning New England Survey. She was an advocate of the importance of a good education and was proud both of her sons for holding true to that and becoming successful dentists. Upon retirement, Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren and  enjoyed traveling, especially on cruises.

Later in life, as Mary’s Alzheimer’s progressed, she moved to the Rubin Thomson House. The family would like to thank the staff for making the Rubin Thomson House a true home for Mary and being so attentive to her every need.

She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Gilbride, devoted mother of Robert Gilbride and his wife, Nancy of East Boston and Richard Gilbride and his wife, Judy of Beverly; dear sister of the late Anna Pelligrino, Amelia Zagarella, Rose Susi, Rita Pennachio and Frank Susi and adored grandmother of Richard, Jillian, Jonathan, Serena and Robert. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor Mary’s life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga St., East Boston on Thursday, May 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday morning at 8:30 before leaving in funeral procession to St. Joseph – St. Lazarus Church, Ashley St., East Boston for a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass in celebration of Mary’s life. Services will conclude with Mary being laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Robert at Winthrop Cemetery.

Stanley DeMartinis

Entrepreneur, beloved by his family and many friends

Stanley DeMartinis of Lynnfield, formerly of East Boston, passed away surrounded by his loving family on May 1. He was 73 years old.

Beloved by his family and many friends, those who were fortunate to know him will remember Stanley as an entrepreneur who started working in his family’s meat market on Maverick Street in East Boston at a very young age.  In the late 70’s and 80’s, he owned Penn’s Pub & Sandwich World on Bromfield Street near Downtown Crossing and in the early 90’s, Prime Time on Revere Beach Parkway. In 1993, he brought his entrepreneurial spirit back to East Boston and opened World Gym on McClellan Highway, now Planet Fitness, where he has lovingly served the community of East Boston for over 25 years.

The cherished son of the late Salvatore and Anna (Mazzone) DeMartinis, he was the devoted husband of Linda (Ciampa) DeMartinis with whom he shared 50 years of marriage, loving father of Stanley C. DeMartinis Jr. and his wife, Nikki, and Salvatore F. DeMartinis and his wife, Janeen; adored grandfather of Stanley III, Nicolas, Salvatore Jr, Francesca, Antonia and

Dominic and dear brother of the late Ann Marie (DeMartinis) Visvis.
