Anne Virginia Ascolillo

Of East Boston

Anne Virginia (Briatico) Ascolillo of East Boston passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, June 25.

The beloved wife of the late Ronald A. Ascolillo, she was the devoted mother of Ronald G. and his wife, Colette of Saugus, Kevin and his wife, Lillian of Beverly and Deborah Ascolillo and her companion, Brian Rosenthal of Malden; dear sister of Francis Kamer of Texas and the late Barbara Briatico, Elizabeth Briatico, Angelo Capolla, and Vito Briatico; cherished grandmother of six and great grandmother of eight. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor Anne’s life by gathering Thursday, June 30 from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga Street, (Orient Heights) East Boston followed by a prayer service in our Serenity Chapel at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with Anne being laid to rest with her beloved husband, Ronald in Woodlawn Cemetery. Peter Motherway

Of Revere, formerly of East Boston

Peter Motherway of Revere, formerly of Orient Heights East Boston, died on June 12 after a long battle with many illnesses. He was 63 years old.

He was the cherished son of the late Peter and Rose (Donohue) Motherway; beloved husband of Patricia (Farro) Motherway; loving father of Peter Motherway of Revere; dear brother of John Motherway and his wife, Anne of Arizona, Robert Motherway of Saugus and George and Joyce Motherway, both of Revere. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Leon DeRosa, Sr.

Of East Boston, formerly of Revere

Leon DeRosa, Sr. of East Boston, formerly of Revere, died  on June 12.

He was the beloved son of the late Nicholas and Ida (Lamonte); loving husband of 34 years to Lucille (DiPasquale); cherished father of Leon DeRosa Jr. and his companion, Natalie Marcil of Fitchburg and Melinda Kendall and her companion, Timothy Buckley of Leominster; beloved brother of Joseph DeRosa of Lowell, and the late Nicholas and Robert DeRosa and adoring grandfather of Carissa, Michayla, Jessica, and Chase.  He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Leon loved his family very much and relished in the time spent together.  He enjoyed visiting hobby shops and had a collection of model trains.  Leon was an avid sports fan with hockey being his favorite.  He was a member of the Elks in Revere for over 40 years and sang in the church choir.  He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Fred ‘Sibby’ Girolamo

Of Peabody, formerly of Revere and East Boston

Fred J. “Sibby” Girolamo  of Peabody, formerly of Revere and East Boston, died on June 7. He was 88 years old.

A US Army veteran of the Korean War, he was the beloved husband of the late Theresa (Vigliotta) Girolamo; loving father of Janis Merchant, Fred E. Girolamo and his wife, Michelle, all of Peabody and the late Gary Girolamo; cherished grandfather of Renee Merchant, Gary and Stephen Girolamo and the late Danielle Linn – Merchant and adored great- grandfather of Dylan Linn; dear brother of Mary Carbone of Revere and the late Carmen Girolamo and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Co-founded East Boston Savings Bank Deep Freeze Cancer Tournament

Jacalyn (Moses) Anthony of East Boston passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 27.

Jacalyn co-founded East Boston Savings Bank Deep Freeze Cancer Tournament which has raised over $35,000 for BMC.

 She was the loving daughter of Hilda (Wells) and the late Ralph Moses of New York; beloved wife of Robert E. Anthony BPD of East Boston; devoted mother of Carrie Brangiforte and her husband, Phillip of East Boston; dear sister of Norma Cyrus and her late husband, Frank, Beverly Cutler and her husband, Raymond, all of New York, Martha Bannon and her husband, Jack of South Carolina, Sherry Menotti and her husband, John of New York and the late Gary Moses; cherished grandmother of Kayla, John, Jacqueline, Nicolette and Alexandria. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor Jacalyn’s life by gathering on Friday, July 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga Street, (Orient Heights) East Boston and again Saturday morning at 8:30 before leaving in procession to Saint Joseph Saint Lazarus Church, 59 Ashley Street, for a Funeral Mass in celebration of her life at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with Mrs. Anthony being laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery. A past member of Beachmont Seniors, Winthrop Seniors, and Courageous Generation of Saint Lazarus Parish, she was the beloved wife of the late Angelo Faro; devoted mother of Joan Faro of East Boston, Domenic and his wife, Diane of Florida and John and his wife, Donna of Saugus; dear sister of Henry Famolare of Saugus and the late William and Joseph Famolare and Mary Ruggiero; cherished grandmother of Nicole, David, Richard, Gregory and Jamie; adored great-grandmother of Chloe, Eli, Claire, Evan, Sam, Lucas and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Carol Ann Guthrie of Chelsea, formerly of East Boston, died unexpectedly on June 23.

She was the loving mother of Michael, Eric Sr, Jose, Emy, Lizzy, Bianca and the late Francy; cherished grandmother of Kassandra, Miranda, Jose Jr, Ariana, Mia, Eric Jr, Dieze, Navaeh and Angelina and adored great grandmother of Jaslene and Maiyelle.

Joseph “Joe Words” Scannelli of Revere, formerly of East Boston, passed away on June 10.

Born on June 21, 1932, he was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Manganello) Scannelli; loving father of Cheryl Fischer and her husband, Brad of Danvers and the late Joseph Scannelli Jr.; cherished grandfather of Ashley Fischer; dear brother of Diana Iannuzzi of Florida and Robert Scannelli of New Hampshire. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Emily Marie Zirpolo

Of Saugus, formerly of East Boston

Emily Marie (Schepici) Zirpolo of Saugus, formerly of East Boston, passed away on June 26.  She was 75 years old.

She was the beloved wife of Louis J. Zirpolo; cherished mother of Debbie Federico and her husband, Paul, Donna Leone and her husband, John, Philip Marquardo Jr., Andrea Drinkwater and her fiancé, Michael Arsenault and Dineen DiFlumeri and her husband, Robert; loving grandmother of Amanda, Johnny, Karissa, Melissa, Diana, Bobby, Tyler, Nico and Dariana; caring sister of Joseph “Sonny” Schepici, Anthony “Tony” Schepici, Concetta “Connie” Celeste and the late Josephine “Dolly” Zirpolo, Norma Hibbard and Arthur “Butchie” Schepici and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary A. (LeWalker ) Buonopane of Saugus, formerly of East Boston, died peacefully on June 21.

She was the  devoted mother of Lynne Tosi and her husband, Rich of Wakefield, Stephanie Hawker and her husband, Rob of Lynn, Heather Buonopane and her husband, John Chastang of Gloucester and the late Karen Buonopane; loving daughter of the late Angelina (Guerreri) Sullivan; dear sister of the late Linda LeWalker and cherished grandmother of Nicole, Tori, Amanda and Richie,.

Paul Bennett

Fought long battle with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy

Paul J. Bennett of Everett, formerly of East Boston, died on June 24 at the age of 44 after a long and courageous battle with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy.

He was the beloved son of Marie Bennett (Kitchel) of East Boston; dear brother of John Bennett and his wife, Melissa of Salem, NH; cherished grandson of Ida Femino of East Boston and adored uncle of John, Jacob and Jordan. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held in celebration of Paul’s life on Saturday, July 2 at Sacred Heart Church, Brooks Street, East Boston at NOON. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Celeste “CeeCee” Caccaviello of Revere, formerly of East Boston, passed away June 21.

A retired nurse for the Veterans Administration, she was the cherished daughter of the late Peter and Rita Caccaviello, dear sister of Carla Cress and her husband, Don of Florida and life long friend of Donna Fasulo of Revere. She is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Anna L. (Memmolo) Fagioli of East Boston passed away June 21 at the Massachusetts General Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 77 years old. The loving mother of Debra Tutty of Peabody, Anthony LaCortiglia of East Boston, Donna Langlais and her husband, Thomas of Lynn and Jacqualine Pierce and her husband, Kevin of East Boston, she was the cherished grandmother of Kristine Voce, Jaclyn Crosby and her significant other, Daniel Schottenhamel, John Tutty Jr., Jennifer Langlais, Kevin Pierce Jr. and Ashley Langlais; sister of Robert Memmolo and his wife, Amelia of Middleton and the late Stephen Memmolo of East Boston; wife of the late Joseph Fagioli of East Boston and daughter of the late Josephine (Indorato) Memmolo and Rocco Memmolo of East Boston. Also surviving are two nephews, Robert and Michael Memmolo.

Her Funeral Mass will be in the Sacred Heart Church, 45 Brooks St., E. Boston at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, June 29. Relatives and friends are invited.
