Mayor’s Cup Youth Hockey Tournament Begins

Boston’s youth hockey players was  ready for action as the 2015 Mayor’s Cup Hockey Tournament on Sunday, December 20.

Hosted by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department with support from presenting sponsor the Boston Bruins Foundation and additional support from P&G Gillette, teams from throughout Boston participate in this citywide tournament to vie for the championship title in 13 divisions for boys and girls ages 6 to 14 (Mites, Squirts, Pee Wees, and Bantam).

“Through sports like hockey, young people are given a chance to build life-long skills, such as teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership,” said Mayor Walsh. “I extend my gratitude to the Boston Bruins Foundation and P&G Gillette for bringing these teams together for weeks of exciting action and the opportunity to meet and play with youth from throughout the city.”

Games began on December 20 at 8:30 a.m. and are played all week long at local rinks throughout Boston.  Rinks hosting the tournament include Bajko Rink in Hyde Park, Devine Rink in Dorchester, Emmons Horrigan Rink in Charlestown, Murphy Rink in South Boston, Porazzo Rink in East Boston, Roche Rink in West Roxbury, Bright Hockey Arena at Harvard University, Conte Forum at Boston College, Walter Brown Arena at Boston University, and Matthews Arena at Northeastern University.

The girls’ finals are scheduled for Wednesday, December 30, at Matthews Arena and the boys’ finals will be held Sunday, January 17, at Conte Forum.  Support for the Mayor’s Cup Ice Hockey Tournament is also provided by The Department of Recreation and Conservation, FMC Ice Sports, Boston University, Northeastern University, Harvard University, and Boston College.
