EB Jets take a huge win

over South Boston, 24-6

The rain and snow stopped in the early morning leaving the field at White Stadium snow covered and muddy, but the skies brightened as the 97th clash got underway on Thanksgiving morning.  With a record of 5-5 and a winning season at stake, East Boston triumphed with a 24-6 win over South Boston.

The Jets (6-5) got off to a great start with a stellar performance from Joel Pastrana in the first quarter, scoring two touchdowns.  The sophomore was MVP of the game.   At halftime, East Boston led 24-6 and neither team scored in the third and fourth.

The game began with seniors from both teams lining up for introductions in recognition for playing their last high school football game.  Watching from the stands were a lot of East Boston High grads who played for the team and came out to cheer on the Jets.  One who was missed was Mr. Anthony Albano who died suddenly October 2 at the age of 66.  A staunch East Boston High sports fan (and graduate), Mr. Albano rarely missed a Thanksgiving Day game.

East Boston coach John Parziale said the Jets’ victory over South Boston (3-7) concluded a successful season.

“It was a successful season from the fact that we made the playoffs and had a winning record,” said Parziale, who will return next season. “We started off slowly and could have used a win in our first three game but we came on strongly and it was nice to end with a win on Thanksgiving.”

Two-way lineman Tommy Wilson, running back and cornerback Justin Roman, and running back and linebacker Jose Harry were selected to the Boston City League All-Star Team.

East Boston leads the Thanksgiving series, 49-42-6.
