Lightning Express Defends the Cup

The EBMHL Cup will not be finding a new residence this year, as Lightning Express successfully defended their title in the EBMHL Championship Series, defeating the East Boston Yacht Club 2 games to none. Lightning’s captain Dominic DiMarzo had the troops primed and ready to roll as they rolled on all cylinders throughout both games of what most thought was going to be a 3 game battle. However, EBYC suffered a power outage as Lightning held the leagues leading scorer, Charlie Daniels to zero goals in two games. Goaltender Mario Long was the story of this series as he was a total wall for Lightning, as he has been most of this season.

Game 1 started out as a battle, but Lightning proved overpowering for EBYC as they trounced them off the ice 7-4. It was DiMarzo with 2 nifty tallies, Frank Dimarzo with a goal, and David Collins and Jeff Arinella with goals as well, but the heroes in this one were the play of Frankie LoConte and Damien Margardo, whose tireless efforts were rewarded with a goal each. Loconte’s goal was the eventual game winner for Lightning. Sebastiano Amara (2 goals), Dave Powers, and John Lloyd took care of the scoreboard for EBYC.

Game 2

In a game that could have very easily gone either way, Lightning Express behind the play of “the biker gang” Dominic DiMarzo, Joe DiMarzo, and Frank DiMarzo, were just too much for EBYC to handle. Lightning led in this one the entire contest with goals from D. DiMarzo, Jeff Arinella, and F. Dimarzo until Sebastiano Amara was able to pump one home on a EBYC power play in the 3-1 Lightning victory earning them the EBMHL Cup for a second year in a row. It was a fantastic season at Porazzo and the players of the EBMHL would like to personally thank all who came down to the rink to catch a game during the cold winter.

The players of the EBMHL would like to send a special thank you to the 6 sponsors who reach into the pocket each year to make this league the success it has become.

Lightning Express, East Boston Yacht Club, Rep. Carlo Basile, ecco Restaurant, Milano’s Deli, and Market Café

All are greatly appreciated.

They would also like to send a special thank you to Ryan Luongo and Jeff Arinella who once again have put together a successful and fun season of hockey. Their efforts in keeping the sport of hockey alive and kicking in East Boston are appreciated by all involved. Thank you!

See you all next September!
