Jets Soar over Southie, 22-14

The annual Thanksgiving Day rivalry between East Boston and South Boston High Schools on Thanksgiving Day did not upset.

Eastie was able to top Southie 24-14 during the 95th annual match up at White Stadium last Thursday. The Jets improved to 5-5 on the season after the holiday win.

Eastie struck first with quarterback Vincent Lepore’s QB sneak on the goal line in the first quarter.

The second quarter opened with Eastie senior running back Matthew Robinson scoring on a 2-yard run followed by a two-point conversion.

But with 15 seconds left in the half, Southie quarterback Hakine Walcott answered with a 22-yard completion to wide receiver Demario Taylor. Walcott then connected with Pannell Davis for a 7-yard touchdown pass. Southie’s Sean Hunter then scored a 2-point conversion to make it 14-8

Coming out of the locker room after halftime the Jets were pumped and ready to play. During their first drive in the third quarter, Robinson took the ball 38-yards past Southie’s defense for a touchdown. That was followed by a 2-point conversion to make it 22-8.

Southie answered in the fourth quarter with Hunter scoring a touchdown and a 2-point conversion to make it 22-14.

However, it was a little too late for Southie.

The Jets controlled the clock well in the fourth and Southie took over on downs with less than a minute to play. Southie couldn’t materialize any plays to get the ball into the end zone before time expired thus giving Eastie its Thanksgiving Day victory.
