EBMHL Heading Towards Championship

Last Tuesday April 3 the remaining four teams in the EBMHL took to the ice for the EBMHL semifinals. After a long and extremely exciting season there stood four remaining teams all wanting one thing, the EBMHL Cup. Game 1 saw the 2nd seed Lightning Express take on the 5th seeded Chiara’s Auto in a game that started out in what everyone thought was going to be a blowout as Lightning jumped out to a 4-0 lead on some outstanding offense by Dominic DiMarzo and Kris Sullivan. Goaltender Nicky Rossi was up to the task, up until Chiara’s Auto decided it was not going to go down without a fight. as they were able to pop in 3 goals to make it a 1 goal game. Unfortunately, for Chiara’s Auto, Lightning Express was not to be denied this evening as they were able to hang on and advance to the EBMHL Championship. In what certainly proved to be the game of the evening, we saw Danilchuk Auto Body, the 6th seeded team who took out the high powered Milano’s Deli the week before, pitted up against the defending champion East Boston Yacht Club and league leading scorer Charlie Daniels. Danilchuk came out of the gates in a hurry scoring a quick one to jump out to the 1-0 lead early. Shortly after, they added another making it a 2-0 game. Marc Lanzilli, Bill Corcoran, and Mark Moran were rolling on all cylinders as they looked to advance on and face Lightning Express. Charlie Daniels and Dave Berardinellli and the rest of the EBYC had other plans. EBYC  began their assault storming back to tie it at 2. Danilchuk, who was light due to the absence of one of the leagues best defenders in Matt Morrissey, not to mention one of their biggest offensive threats as well, struggled to shut down the prolific offense of Berardinelli and Daniels, who bolstered the EBYC putting them in front 4-2. Danilchuk refused to go away as they came back to tie the game at 4, and it wasn’t until the midway point of the 3rd period when EBYC was able to stick the dagger in the hearts of the Danilchuk boys jumping out to a 2 goal lead late in the 3rd and adding a empty netter of the stick of Daniels. Goaltenders Chris Grossmann for EBYC and Mario Long for Danilchuk, both stood on their heads throughout this one making big save after big save. EBYC now advances on to the Championship Game vs. Lightning Express. 1 vs 2 in what is sure to be a Champiosnhip Game to remember. The game takes place in Revere and will be recapped in next weeks edition of the Eastie Times. We thank any and all who came out to support the guys in East Boston this season
