Two more weeks of the EBMHL are in the books and as this season goes on, it seems to be getting better and better. The hockey was at a furious pace in week five as we witnessed the match up that we have been waiting for between the two remaining undefeated squads in the league, Lightning Express and Danilchuk Auto Body and the emergence of Milano’s Deli and their finally found scoring touch, Mike Burri.
In Game 1 action East Boston Yacht Club took to the ice versus Chiara’s Auto in a game that could have gone either way throughout the contest. Goaltender Chris Grossmann, stood his ground through out this one as he shut down the Chiara’s offense to bolster the defending champs to a 5-2 victory. The always dangerous top line of Charlie Daniels (2 goals), Dave Berardinelli (2 goals), and Matt Clewer (1 goal) had Chiara’s Auto’s heads spinning all game long. Game 2 between Milano’s Deli and Royal Roast Beef saw the emergence of the scoring touch everyone was waiting for out of the potent Milano’s lineup. Leading the cast was Mike Burri, whose stick alone carried Milano’s to victory with his 2 goals and 4 assists. Peter Hanlon (3 goals) and Jared Melillo (3 goals) also pitched in with a hat trick a piece in the 8-1 drubbing of Royal Roast Beef. Last and certainly not least, was the game of the evening between Lightning Express and Danilchuk Auto. The game started out with some fantastic up and down hockey with Goalie Nicky Rossi setting the pace for LE with many key stops throughout the first period. Both teams were neck and neck for most of this game until Dom DiMarzo had enough of the pesky Danilchuk offense burying 3 goals to propel Lightning Express to a huge 7-4 win and knocking Danilchuk down to second place.
Week six brought us a few surprises, along with the leagues first trade of the very long season. Paul Monzione, formerly of Royal Roast Beef, was traded to Chiara’s Auto for Dante Arinella in a trade that had instant implications on week six. Game 1 of the evening, the boys from Danilchuk Auto were poised to jump back on track after a deflating loss to Lightning Express in Week five but ran into the hottest team in the league in Milano’s Deli. Mike Burri once again, stepped up and led the way for Milano’s as he was all over the ice throughout this game notching four goals and three assists, helping Burri out in this one were Peter Hanlon (1 goal, 4 assists), Mike Demodena (1 goal, 1 assist), Larry McGahey (1 goal, 1 assist), David Chiaradonna (1 goal, 1 assist), and Dave Natola (1 goal, 1 assist). For Danilchuk, Marc Lanzilli (2 goals) had the scoring touch along with Bill Corcoran (1 goal) and Sebastiano Amara(1 goal) while Matt Morrissey and Mark Buttiglieri has 2 assists each to help out the offensive attack. A great game was turned in from Carl Fiantago on the blue line. Game 2 saw the Darrell Interbartolo show roll into town as he buried four goals and one assist for Royal Roast Beef in a losing effort versus Chiara’s Auto 9-6. Interbartolo, with new teammate Dante Arinella by his side (1 goal, 2 assists) wasn’t able to muster up enough firepower this evening as the new look Chiara’s Auto was rolling on all cylinders thanks to Mike Rodrigues (4 goals, 3 assists), new acquisition Paul Monzione (1 goal, 3 assists), Sean Smith (2 goals, 2 assists), Jeff Delpidio (2 goals, 2 assists), and Eric Gahagan (2 assists). Game of the night brought us a huge upset as the defending champs took down the undefeated Lightning Express Squad, who went into this one 5-0. In what was one of the most exciting games this season to date. EBYC, led by Charlie Daniels (2 goals), was able to get to goalie Nicky Rossi who was playing shut down hockey through out this game. Along with Daniels, Dave Berardinelli (1 goal, 1 assist), Matt Clewer (1 goal, 2 assists), and Brian Hayes(1 goal) all pitched in for the winning effort. Lightnings offense was provided by Dom Dimarzo, Frank DiMarzo, and Brendan Bonito who all notched single tallies for LE.
