Sabino ‘Sammy’ Recchia

Soccer enthusiast, member of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman’s Union, Local 3

Sabino “Sammy” Recchia of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died unexpectedly on August 19. He was 68 years old.

Born in 1942, he grew up in Bari, Italy and he and his family moved to the United States in 1960. He was a master in masonry with much of his work displayed throughout Revere and all of the Greater Boston area.

He had a passion for soccer, which was evident in his earlier years as an avid player and later as a dedicated viewer of his favorite team, The Napoli. But his utmost enjoyment was to spend as much time as possible with his family. His bigger than life personality and never ending generosity made him well-known throughout the community. He touched the lives of so many and will be immensely missed by everyone.

A member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Local 3, he was the beloved husband of Barbara ( Vinagro) Recchia with whom she shared 45 years of marriage, the devoted father of four daughters, Diana Moffett and her husband, Lloyd of Newburyport, Marisa DiGiovanni and her husband, Arthur of Marblehead, Marygrace Brown and her husband, Warren of Bradford and Jennifer Boyd and her husband, William of Revere; dear brother of Maria Turturro of East Boston and Domenico Recchia of Revere; cherished grandfather of Nicholas, Alexandra, Madison and Olivia DiGiovanni and Dylan Brown; son of Teresa (Lenoci) Recchia of East Boston and the late Francesco Recchia and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held from Vazza’s “Beechwood” Funeral Home, 262 Beach Street, Revere, today, Wednesday, at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Immaculate Conception Church, Revere at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Sebastiana ‘Anna’ Leo

East Boston resident

Sebastiana “Anna” (Salamanca) Leo of East Boston died on August 20.

She was the beloved wife of the late Rocco Leo; devoted mother of Edith “Edy” Farago of Dorchester, Vincent “Jimmy” Leo and his wife, Vivan of Winthrop and the late Paul Leo; cherished grandmother of Billy and Rico Farago; dear sister of the late Mary Santangelo, Anthony, Manuel, Peter and Grace Salamanca and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral will be held from the Ruggiero Mazzarella Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga St. (Orient Heights) East Boston on Thursday, August 25 at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of her life in St. John the Evangelist Church, Winthrop Street, Winthrop  at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Dorothy ‘Dottie’ (Scaramella) Pescione of Stoneham died on August 20. She was 85 years old.

A former Stoneham crossing guard, she was the beloved wife of Armand Pescione, Sr., the devoted mother of Armand Pescione, Jr. of Boston and Joyce Daniels and her husband, Marshall of Methuen; cherished grandmother of Jennifer Ameen and her husband, Michael, Marshall Daniels, Jr. and Amanda Daniels, all of Methuen; loving great grandmother of Michael Joseph Ameen; dear sister of Ralph Scaramella and the late Madeline Greco, Rita Cericola, Flora Kimball, Virginia D’Angelo and Marie Danielson. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late Vincent Scaramella and Flora (Godien) Scaramella.

Joseph J. “Joey” Yourawski of Revere died on August 14 after a long illness.

He was the loving father of Joseph O’Connell of Somerville and Cara Finocchio and her husband, Anthony of Revere; beloved son of the late Walter and Caroline (Sasso) Yourawski; dear brother of Thomas and Louella Yourawski of Revere, Walter Yourawski and his wife, Cerie and Karen Stoico, all of Peabody and the late Kevin Yourawski and Sandra Yourawski; cherished grandfather of Dylan and Colin Finocchio; beloved uncle of Robby, Caroline and Julian Yourawski and Michael, Nicole and Courtney Stoico, all of Peabody, Jay Yourawski of Florida, Paul Cambria of Peabody and Ronny Cambria of Lynn.

Michael Slattery

Retired MBTA Mechanic

Michael B. Slattery of Dunnellon, Florida died on August 11 at the Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida after a brief illness. He was 65 years old.

Born in Malden, he was a resident of Malden and Everett until moving to Florida nine years ago, A US Army veteran, for more than 30 years, until his retirement, he worked as a mechanic for the MBTA.

He was the devoted husband of Patricia (Mayhew); beloved father of Michael Slattery and his wife, Jessica of New Haven, CT, Keith Slattery and his wife, Kelly of Melrose and Jason Slattery and his wife, Stephanie of Malden; brother of John Slattery of Malden, Terrance Slattery of East Boston, Mary Slattery of Malden and the late Francis Slattery and Noreen Martorana; cherished grandfather of Finn, Ingrid, William, Megan and Brianne. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine A. (Souza) deAngelis of Saugus, formerly of East Boston, died on August 16.

She was the wife of the late Ralph G. deAngelis; loving mother of Stephen deAngelis of Rowley, Christine deAngelis of Alabama, Lori DiFraia of Woburn and Michael deAngelis of Haverhill; sister of William Souza of Danvers. She was also the sister of three late brothers one late sister and the grandmother of six grandchilren.

Lena (Malagrifa) O’Neil of Swampscott, formerly of East Boston, died on August 22. She was in her 94th year.

She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur F. O’Neil; loving mother of Richard O’Neil and his wife, Eleanor, Arthur O’Neil Jr. and his wife, Dolly and Maureen Bolognese and her husband, Ottavio, all of Swampscott; dear sister of Lucia Ferullo of East Boston, Olga Russo of Swampscott, Mary Wolthausen of California and Albert Malagrifa of Lynn; cherished grandmother of eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Joseph Fiore of Beachmont Revere died on August 15.

He was the cherished son of Lena (Serino) Fiore of Revere and the late Vincent P. Fiore; loving brother of Domenic Fiore and Stephen Fiore, both of Revere, Angela Fiore of Peabody and the late James Fiore; brother in law of Sylvia Fiore of Woburn; dear uncle of Tayla, Stephen, Nicole Fiore and Brian and James Foster and he also leaves his grand niece, Desiree Fiore.

Retired Secretary

Ruth A. (Higgins) Gallagher  of Winthrop died at home surrounded by her loving family on August 15. She was 93 years old.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Gallagher worked as a secretary for Sears & Roebuck.

She was born in Boston, the daughter of the late George and Lillian (Shannon) Higgins and was the beloved mother of James Gallagher and his wife, Patricia of Winthrop; cherished grandmother of James Gallagher and his wife, Margot of East Boston and Sean Gallagher and his wife, Julie of Winthrop;  the dear great grandmother of Emma Ann and Liam Richard Gallagher. She is also survived by her son Paul Gallagher.
