Sabino ‘Sam’ Picardo

Springfield resident

Sabino “Sam” Picardo of Springfield, formerly of Revere and East Boston, died December 4 in Mercy Medical Center, Springfield. He was 91 years old.

The son of the late Angelo and Finizia (DiMattia) Picardo, he was born in Avellino, Italy on August 28, 1919. He immigrated to the United States in 1932, was raised in East Boston and lived in Revere for 70 years. He worked at the former Neighborhood Cleaners as a pressman for 45 years, retiring in 1984. He was a communicant and served as an usher at St. Anthony’s Church, Revere and was a member of the Revere Knights of Columbus.

He was the husband of the late Phyllis (Grasso) Picardo; brother of the late Orlando and Angelo Picardo and Elizabeth Ghinelli. He is survived by a daughter, Debe A. Crowell and her husband, Robert, of Springfield; two grandchildren, Lindsay and Ryan; a brother, Joseph Picardo; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are asked to meet on Thursday morning, December 9 at St. Anthony’s Church, 250 Revere Street, Revere to Celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. for Mr. Picardo. Rites of Committal and burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. There are no visiting hours. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Sampson Family Chapels are entrusted with the arrangements.

Elizabeth Effie Gallagher

Of Revere, formerly of East Boston

Elizabeth Effie (Johnson) Gallagher of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on December 5 after an illness.

She was the wife of the late Dennis; loving mother of Elizabeth Curtis and her husband, Richard, Brian Puzzo and his wife, Debbie, all of Revere, Barbara Puzzo and Daniel Gallagher, both of East Boston; dear grandmother to Antonina, Adele, Courtney, Brian, Christopher and Angela and great-grandmother of Damianna.

Funeral arrangements were by the Magrath Funeral Home, East Boston. In lieu flowers, donations to the family would be appreciated.

Concetta Ricci

Of Revere, formerly of East Boston

Concetta A. (Luongo) Ricci of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on December 2. She was in her 95th year.

She was the beloved wife of the late Leonard F. Ricci with whom she shared 57 years of marriage; loving mother of Leonora “Lee” Palumbo and her husband, Revere Patrolman Vincent Palumbo of Revere; dear sister of Gerard Luongo of East Boston and the late Pasquale Luongo, Catherine Abbatessa, Antoinette Natola, Frances Terrizzi, Helen “Lil” Scarpa, Vera Pagliuca and Jean Malvone; cherished grandmother of Michael Palumbo and his wife, Cara, Jason Palumbo and Saugus Patrolman Christopher Palumbo.

Norma Piacenza

East Boston Savings Bank retiree

Norma M. (Hagan) Piacenza of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, died on December 4.

A retired 19 year employee of East Boston Savings Bank, cashier and avid shopper at Filene’s Basement and an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish, she was the beloved wife of Nelson Piacenza; mother of Karen Piacenza-Gomes and her husband, Edward, of Methuen, Stephen Piacenza and his wife, Marie, of Winthrop and Nelson W. Piacenza of Beacon Hill; sister of the late Bernice Muise and Joseph Hagan; aunt of Susan and also survived by her grand dogs, Jesse, Gracie and Stella.

Edward Cerulli

Past Treasurer of the Patriots Senior Citizens Club

Edward Cerulli of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on December 3.

A US Army veteran of the Korean War, he was the Past Treasurer of the Patriots Senior Citizen Club.

He was the beloved husband of Emily A. (De Florio) Cerulli with whom he shared 60 years of marriage; loving father of Patricia Raia of Somerville and Karen Struthers of New Hampshire; dear brother of Matilda Giannotti of Italy, Norma Uva of N. Reading, Lucille Buxton of Louisiana and the late Nicholas, Eugene and Victor Cerulli; cherished grandfather of Randy Baratz, Vincenzio Raia, Michael, David and Adam Struthers.

Theresa B. (Schipani) Grifoni of East Boston died on December 1.

The beloved wife of Anthony F. Grifoni with whom she shared 63 years of marriage, she was the loving mother of Elizabeth Paull and her husband, Charles, of New Hampshire, Anthony M. Grifoni and his wife, Michele, of Beverly and Donald T. Grifoni and his wife, Patricia, of East Boston; dear sister Elizabeth McCarthy and Leonora Schipani, both of Revere, Marie Bordwski of Florida, Anthony Schipani of East Boston, Robert Schipani of Winthrop and the late Donald and Thomas Schipani; cherished grandmother of eight and great grandmother of one.

Paul N. “Yoker” Odierno of East Boston died on December 1.

A US Army veteran and past member of the Otis Club, he was the loving son of the late Alfred and Lucy (Gaetano) Odierno; dear brother of Elsie Antonuccio of East Boston and the late Louis and Frank Odierno and is also survived by his many cherished nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth N. “Lee” (Consolante) DeVito of Everett, formerly of East Boston, died on November 28.

A 40-year employee of the Whidden Hospital, she was the beloved wife of Joseph; the mother of Joseph A. and his wife, Diane, of Everett and Ella Ann D’Amico and her husband, Leo, of Virginia; sister of Anthony Consolante and his wife, Marilyn, of Winthrop and the late Ella Consolante. She is also survived by her granddaughter Ariana Larson and her husband, Eric, and her grandson John D’Amico.

Catherine Costanzo

Catherine (Pino) Costanzo of Saugus, formerly of Orient Heights, East Boston, died on November 30. She was 82 years old.

A member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, she was the beloved wife of 60 years of the late Joseph Costanzo; devoted mother of Loretta Cannistraci and her husband, Anthony, of Saugus, Catherine Giordano and her husband, Anthony, of No. Reading, Rosemarie Ferri and her husband, Mark, of Saugus; cherished grandmother of Peter Cannistraci and his wife, Melissa, of Peabody, Anthony Giordano and his wife, Lena, of Saugus, Angela Cannistraci of Boston, Christina and Nicholas Giordano, both of No. Reading, Grace, Catherine and Olivia Ferri, all of Saugus.

Noreen (Mortimer) Dunbar of East Boston died on November 23.

Doreen O’Donnell

Longtime Supervisor for CRW-Healthcare

Doreen M. (Maguire) O’Donnell died unexpectedly at her Revere home on November 28. She was 66 years old.

Born in Boston, she was a lifelong resident of Revere and an graduate of Immaculate Conception Grammar and High School and of Regis College, Class of 1966. She began her career with Chelsea-Revere-Winthrop Elder Healthcare in 1985 and has been a Supervisor of the Social Workers Division for more than 20 years. She was a past president and member of the Immaculata Guild.

She was the most devoted mother of James T. O’Donnell and his wife, Shannan K., of Revere and Mary-Margaret Zablocki and her husband, John C., of Fairfield, CT; cherished grandmother of Savanah A., Sabrina J. Maguire and Caitlyn R. O’Donnell, all of Revere and Mary Katherine Zablocki of Fairfield, CT. She is the dear sister of Sharon M. Ranno of Orlando, Florida, the aunt and Godmother to Nicole M. Davis and her husband, W. Spencer Davis, and the grand aunt of S. Alex and Hope M. Davis, all of Washington DC. She is also lovingly survived by two uncles.
