John Lima

Of California, formerly of East Boston

John R. Lima of Lakeport, California, formerly of East Boston, died on October 30.

A Vietnam veteran, he was the beloved husband of Patricia (Newton) Lima; adored son of the late Doris (LeBlanc) Lima and John Lima of Modesto, CA; devoted brother of Donna (Santilli) Lima of East Boston and Yvonne Goodwin of Florida; loving father of Donna Surface; cherished Uncle to many. He is also survived by two grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

His burial will take place in California. The family will hold a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph-St. Lazarus Church, 59 Ashley Street, East Boston on Saturday November 6 at 11 a.m.

 

Esther McHugh

East Boston resident

Esther M. (Martret) McHugh of East Boston died on October 24. She was 82 years old.

The devoted wife of the late Francis P. McHugh, she was the cherished daughter of the late Augustine and Mary (Murphy) Martret; loving mother of Francis W. McHugh and his wife, Denise, of East Boston, Paul J. McHugh and his wife, Kathy, of Norwood, James McHugh Smith of East Boston and his wife, Mary Smith, and the late Mary McHugh; cherished grandmother of Christa Marie Smith, Michael and Kristine McHugh and great grandmother of Joseph McHugh; loving sister of Florence, Mary, Violet, Augustus, Joseph, and the late Shirley.

Robert Belmonte

East Boston resident

Robert A. Belmonte of East Boston died on October 31.

A US Army Reservist, he was the beloved son of the late Anthony and Lillian (Burner) Belmonte; loving husband of Angela f. (Gualtieri) Belmonte; cherished father of Rhonda LaFlamme and her husband, William, of Chelsea, Robert A. Belmonte Jr. and his wife, Marie, of Wilmington and John Belmonte of East Boston; treasured grandfather of Sabrina, Maria and Kristina Ciulla, Brandon and Samantha Belmonte and great-grandfather of Jonathan Flores. He was the dear brother of the late Joseph Belmonte and his wife, Roberta, Herbert "Cicco" Belmonte and his surviving wife, Phyllis, of East Boston, Ronald Belmonte and his surviving wife, Lola, of East Boston and Emma DiBella. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Alice Gordon

Of Florida, formerly of East Boston

Alice Gordon, a longtime resident of East Boston until moving to Florida four years ago, died on October 20.

She will be sadly missed by so many, her loving children Denise Ferdinand, Carolann Potts , Danny Gordon and Nancy Gordon; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren who will always miss and love her.

Sadly, her eldest daughter, Irene, held the Gates of Heaven_open for her mother two days earlier.

 

Louis A. DelPrete Sr.

Formerly of Revere and East Boston

Louis A. DelPrete Sr., formerly of Revere and East Boston, died suddenly on October 3.

A graduate of Boston English High School and Wentworth Institute, he was the husband of Janice (Cataldo) of Winthrop and St. Petersburg, Florida; devoted father of Louis A. DelPrete, Jr. of St. Petersburg, Florida; son of the late Gennaro and Antoinetta (Maddalone) DelPrete of East Boston; beloved brother of Michael A. DelPrete and his wife, Mary, of Revere and St. Augustine, Florida and brother-in-law of Lorraine Guarino of St.Petersburg, Florida; cousin of Gennaro DelPrete of East Boston, Michael DelPrete of Revere, Rose Tacelli of East Boston, Saverio Maddalone of Swampscott, Frank Maddalone of Revere and their families and the late Phillip Maddalone. He was the cherished uncle of Michelle DelPrete of Revere, Andrea Gallagher of St. Augustine,Florida, Wendi Magliozzi of Saugus, John, James and Joseph Guarino of Florida and Wisconsin and their families. He is also survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews.

Memorial services will be held at the Brett Funeral Home in St.Petersburg, Florida on Saturday, November 6 at 2 p.m. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

 

Gloria Davis Martin

Former East Boston resident

Gloria Davis Martin was peacefully received into her Savior’s arms on October 21. She was 87 years old.

She was born in Middleborough, MA on May 18, 1923 to Ralph and Aurelia (Berry) Goodwin and most recently made her home in Elmira NY.

She married the late James C. Martin on June 3, 1945 and together they raised their 10 children in Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, Boston’s West End and Dorchester, but they resided most of the years in East Boston before retiring to Florida. In addition to her dedication to her family, she was a proud full member of Tremont Temple Baptist Church in Boston where she also enjoyed singing in the choir.

In addition to her late parents, husband and only brother, Norman, she was also the mother of the late Diana. She will be greatly missed by her nine loving surviving children, Carol of Florida, Jean of Massachusetts, Robert of Rhode Island, Keisha of Pennsylvania, Nancy of Massachusetts, Richard of Florida, Angela of Connecticut, Virginia of Florida and Paul of California. She is also survived by her caring sons in law, 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Southborough Rural Cemetery, Southborough MA.Friends may consider a gift to a favorite charity in her memory.

 

Edith ‘DeeDee’ Maranto

Melrose resident

Edith J. "DeeDee" (Cilibrasi) Maranto of Melrose died on October 27.

Born and raised in East Boston, she was the beloved wife of Joseph V. Maranto with whom she shared 54 years of marriage; the devoted mother of Janice Scolaro and her husband, Tory, of Melrose, Thomas Maranto and David Maranto, both of Wakefield; dear sister of Joseph Cilibrasi and his wife, Mary Jo, of Wakefield, Edward Cilibrasi and his wife, Marie, of Georgia, Charles Cilibrasi and his wife, Maria, of Florida and the late Nina Colarusso, Mamie DiOrio, Nancy Spinney, Francis Cilibrasi and Louie Cilibrasi. She was the cherished grandmother of Tyler, Allyson and Nicholas and is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Thelma ‘Joan’ Drapinski

Worked for East Boston Savings Bank

Thelma "Joan" (Britton) Drapinski of Malden, formerly of Chelsea, died on October 26 at the Massachusetts General Hospital after a long illness. She was 77 years old.

Born in Everett, she was a longtime Chelsea resident until moving to Malden seven years ago. A member of the Red Hat Society, her working career started first at the Saugus Bank and Trust, and then for five years she worked as the manager of Alves Hallmark, also in Saugus. Her last job, for almost 20 years until her retirement, was in the ATM accounts department at East Boston Savings Bank, Central Square, Maverick Square and Orient Heights branches.

She was the devoted wife of the late Frank J. Drapinski; beloved mother of Francis J. Drapinski and his wife, Anne, of Malden and the late Carol Ann Drapinski; dear sister of Gina Fortier and Donna Ashman, both of New Hampshire and the late Joseph Britton, Florence Bocchino and William Barry; cherished grandmother of Lauren, Alexander, Jonathan, Jason and Samantha and is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mary (Imprescia) Arangio of Orient Heights East Boston died on October 7. She was in her 99th year.

Born in Boston and raised in August Sicily, she was a member of the St. Domenic Society of Boston for more than 75 years.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Arangio with whom she shared 66 years of marriage; loving mother of Joseph Arangio Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of East Boston; James D. Arangio and his wife, Theresa, of New Hampshire and Domenic Arangio and his wife, Elaine, of Saugus; dear sister of Sebastiana Serra of East Boston and the late Domenica Amara; cherished grandmother of Joseph Arangio III and his wife, Liz, Nicole Arangio and her husband, James Hunt, Christian Arangio and his wife, Susan, James Arangio and his wife, Julie, Christine Vasilliardis and her husband, Peter, Jennifer Papasodoro and her husband, Michael, Michael J. Nancy M. (Ahern) Huestis of Revere died on October 26. She was in her 93rd year.

She was the wife of the late George Huestis; loving mother of Amy Donovan of Wellesley and the late Ellen Santosuosso and her husband, Richard, of Revere; dear sister of the late Patricia Ahern and Betty Dwyer; cherished grandmother of seven and great grandmother of 10.

Peter Mazzapica of Bradford, formerly of Wilmington and East Boston, died on October 25.

A US Army veteran of World War II, he was raised and educated in East Boston.

He was the beloved husband of Leona M. (Swed) Mazzapica, devoted father of Peter J. Mazzapica and his wife, Nancy, of Bradford, Paul G. Mazzapica of Salem, NH, and the late Thomas A. Mazzapica; dear grandfather of Ryan Mazzapica and Jordan Mazzapica; son of the late Charles and Philipa (Atturio) Mazzapica; brother of Carl Mazzapica of Woburn, Charles Mazzapica of Florida, Vera Venuti of East Boston, the late John Mazzapica and Phyllis Abate.

Teresa (LaRosa) Bellone of East Boston died on October 25.

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Bellone; loving mother of Philip Bellone of Hull, Josephine Piazza of the North End, Rose DiCicco of Winthrop, Rocco Bellone and his wife, Patricia, of Saugus, Charles Bellone of the North End and Theresa Bellone of East Boston. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

Elena ‘Helen’ Statuto

American Optical retiree

Elena "Helen" Statuto, a Chelsea native and a long time resident of Revere, died on October 25 in the Osceola Regional Medical Center of Kissimee, Florida following a brief illness. She was 87 years old.

Mrs. Statuto was born, raised and educated in Chelsea. In 1950 she married the late Armenio ‘Mal’ Statuto of Revere and moved to Revere where she and her husband remained until moving to Kissimmee, Florida in 1986. Mr. Statuto died in April of 1998.

Mrs. Statuto retired from the former American Optical Co. where she worked as an assembler for many years. For the past 24 years, she has been a devout parishioner of "Holy Redeemer Church" of Kissimee, Florida.

She was the sister of Anthony Minchella and his wife, Marion, of Springfield, MA, Rosemarie Quagliato and her husband, Anthony, of East Longmeadow and the late Michelene Roma, Margaret Rubino and Anna Noto. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was also the sister in law of Eda M. Corso of Revere, Mary A. Fulchino of Reading and the late Aurelio and Albert Statuto.
