Christine Cleary

Hingham resident

Christine M. (Doucette) Cleary of Hingham, formerly of Weymouth, died on December 10 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.

She graduated from East Boston High School and Boston Business School and lived in Weymouth for most of her life. She spent many summers as a young girl in Wedgeport, Nova Scotia. She was also an active communicant of Saint Jerome’s Church. She had one fault; she couldn’t say "no" to anyone asking for help. She married her schoolhood chum whom she met in the fourth grade and they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this year.

She was the beloved wife of William L. Cleary; devoted mother of Marc W. Cleary and his wife, Joanne, of Braintree, Jane C. Cleary of North Weymouth and Anne E. Dee and her husband, Michael J., of Scituate; step daughter of Lucy Doucette of Wedgeport, Nova Scotia; sister of John D. Doucette of Wedgeport, N.S, William T. Doucette of South Boston and the late Paul J. Doucette, Gerald C. Doucette and Lawrence C. Doucette; loving grandmother of David M. Cleary and his wife, Jennifer P., of Oak Bluffs and Dean W. Cleary of Braintree and the beloved long time friend of Margaraet Cardoza of Wakefield.

Funeral arrangements were by the McDonald Funeral Home, North Weymouth. Burial was in Old North Cemetery, North Weymouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Saint Jerome’s Church, 632 Bridge St., North Weymouth, MA 02191.

 

Umberto ‘Betho’ Tedescucci Sr.

Owned Princess Cleaners of Waltham

Umberto "Betho" Tedescucci Sr. of East Boston died on December 10.

A US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a past member of the Progressive Club and owned and operated Princess Cleaners in Waltham for more than 30 years.

He was the beloved husband of the late Sylvia (Violante) Tedescucci; devoted father of Lisa Lyons and her husband, John, Sandra Factor and her husband, Steven, all of Stoneham, Umberto Tedescucci Jr. of East Boston, Michael Tedescucci and his wife, Kim, of Foxborough and the late David Tedescucci; dear brother of the late Joseph and Anthony Tedescucci; cherished grandfather of Jeff, Kristiana, Jared, Jake and Nico and is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.

Revere resident, formerly of Colombia

Gerardo Lopez of Revere, formerly of Colombia, died on December 11.

He was the uncle of Patricia Jepez.

Helen (DeSimone) Giordano died in Woburn on December 10.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Giordano; devoted mother of Joseph A.Jr. and his wife, Marjorie, of Woburn, Robert and his wife, Lise, of New Hampshire, Bernadette McCue and her husband, Jim, of New Hampshire, Stephen and his wife, Olga, of Haverhill, and Anthony of Woburn; dear sister of Ann Wilson of Stoneham, Lillian Imbriano of Stoneham and the late Rocco and Frederick DeSimone, Lucy Martinello, Jenny Coyle, Josephine Lauria and Gilda DiPanfilis.

Louis Buttiglieri of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on December 11.

A member of the Laborers Union Local 151, he was the beloved husband of the late Lillian (Raso) Buttiglieri with whom he shared 50 years of marriage; loving father of Lois Dente and her husband, Frank, and Michael Buttiglieri and his wife, Dana, all of Revere; dear brother of Mary Vitale of East Boston and the late Josephine McNeely; cherished grandfather of Diandra Dente and Maiya Buttiglieri.

Domenica (Marino) Birritteri of Somerville, formerly of East Boston, died on December 12.

The beloved wife of the late Ferdinando Birritteri with whom she shared 60 years of marriage, she was the loving mother of Maria Armata and her husband, Frank, and Josephine Cicerone all of Somerville, Rosaria Buiguez and her husband, Alex, of France and Sabastian "Sibby" Birritteri and his wife, Michele, of Saugus; dear sister of Angelina Parente of Augusta Sicily; cherished grandmother of 17 and great grandmother of nine.

Joseph Cataldo Sr.

East Boston resident

Joseph S. Cataldo Sr. died in East Boston on December 10.

He was the beloved husband of 55 years of Mary Grace (Lavery); father of Joseph S. Cataldo Jr, Barbara Rossi and her husband, Nicholas, all of East Boston, and the late Mary Grace Fothergill; brother of Mary Driscoll of East Boston and is also survived by 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Stephen Shuko

Long time Delta Airlines employee

Stephen F. Shuko of Point of Pines, Revere, formerly of the South End, died on December 10.

A Delta Airlines employee for more than 60 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus of Norwood, he was the beloved husband of Claire M. (Baldwin) Shuko with whom he shared 20 years of marriage; dear brother of the late Alfred Shuko; brother in law of Lottie Shuko of Colorado; fond uncle of Caroline Sutherland of Colorado and Marilyn Ashcroft of Maine and best friend of Hans Tiedike and all his friends over over 60 years at Delta Airlines.

Dianne M. (Irwin) Green of Chelsea, formerly of Winthrop, died on December 8.

She was the beloved wife of Richard E. Green with whom she shared 40 years of marriage; loving mother of Kimberleyann, Laurie, Lissa, Tammy, Michaele and the late Michelle and Larry Green and Richard’s children, James, Mark, Kurt, David, Shelly, Dianne and the late Michael Green; dear sister of James Irwin of Revere and the late Barbara Irwin; cherished grandmother of 28 grandchildren.

William Francis Gardiner Jr.

Retired Chief Senior Navy Petty Officer, member of Teamsters Local 25

Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer William Francis Gardiner Jr. , a Winthrop resident for 38 years, died on December 6 following a long struggle with lung cancer and asbestosis. He was 75 years old.

Born and raised in Rhode Island, he graduated from Warren High School in 1950 and entered the US Navy in August of 1951. He served until August of 1981, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. He was a veteran of both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. He began working with the International Teamsters Local 25 and retired from the Local in 1987 because of a long and difficult struggle with Asbestosis. He was a member of the Retired Naval Officers Association International and a member of Local 25.

He leaves his wife of 38 years, Isabelle C. (LaRaia) Gardiner of Winthrop. He was the father of Timothy A. Gardiner and his wife, Lori, of Bristol, RI, William F. Gardiner III and his wife, Shelly, of East Providence, RI and Leslie A. Ciampi and her husband, Peter, of Lexington, MA; brother of Shirley Fournier of Warren, RI, Emma Seyez and her husbnd, Fred, of North Carolina and Margie DaPonte of Bristol, RI; grandfather of Naval Petty Officer TImohty A. Gardiner Jr. and Jared A. "Rufus" Gardiner, Paige L. and Devin L. Arsenult, all of Bristol, RI, Shannon Gardiner of Warren, RI, Courtney M. Joseph and her husband, Dr. Robert Joseph of Dayton, Ohio, Holly C. Reil and her husband, Jon, of Charlestown, MA and Gretchen S. Ciampi of Lexington. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Logan and Cheyenne Gardiner, Cole C., Saige I. and Chase C. Joseph, Logan C. and Vienna S. Reil and many nieces and nephews.

Mitchell Lee

Wrentham resident

Mitchell F. Lee of Wrentham died on December 7.

He was the beloved son of the late Dolores L. (Boudreau) and Robert L. Lee Sr.; uncle of Leigh Honora Fiorillo and many other nieces and nephews; brother of Lorraine Thibodeau and John Lee.

Angela DiFlumeri

Winthrop resident

Angela J. (Capone) DiFlumeri of Winthrop died on December 8. She was 82 years old.

She was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Letizia Capone; widow of Albert DiFlumeri; mother of Aimee Hanley and Letitia DiFlumeri; grandmother of Nicole Sbraccia and Henry Hanley; great-grandmother of one; sister of Ralph Capone and Grace Scopa of Revere and the late Maria Strahl, Ellie Kozlowski, and Phyllis Longo.

Frank D’Amore

Retired Engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Frank D’Amore, a 55 year resident of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, died at his late residence on December 8 after a long illness. He was 90 years old.

Born in Boston, the son of the late Lucia (Alfieri) and Alfonso D’Amore, he attended Northeastern University and was a member of the Northeastern University Alumni Association, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, The Disabled American Veterans, A US Navy veteran of World War II and a registered Professional Engineer with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

He was the beloved husband of Mary Concetta (Presutti); the devoted father of John F. D’Amore of Saugus, Janice D’Amore of Medford and Mary J. D’Amore of Winthrop and the loving grandfather of Audrey and Molly Sullivan.

George Walker

Retired Boston Fire Department Lieutenant

George Walker of of East Boston died on December 7.

A US Navy veteran of World War II, he was a Past Plank Member of USS Massachusetts, a retired lieutenant in the Marine Division of Boston Fire Department and a member of Firefighters Local 718.

The beloved husband of Gladys "Millie (Smith) Walker who died on July 12 after 58 years of marriage, he was the devoted father of David Walker and his wife, Carol, of Winthrop ,George Walker and his wife, Eileen, of Merrimack NH, Lynn Mulholland and her husband, Max, of Winthrop and Beverly and Shirlee Walker, both of East Boston; cherished grandfather of Thomas, Laura, Susan, Julie, Marianne, Matthew, Sean, Maggie, Ian and Ross.

A Memorial Service celebrating his life was held in the Ruggiero Mazzarella Memorial Home, (Orient Heights) East Boston. Services concluded with Mr. Walker’s ashes being laid to rest with Military Honors in Woodlawn Cemetery. Robert L. Hightower Jr of Chelsea died on December 7.

He was the devoted father of Robert III and Calinda Goglia, both of Chelsea, and Dacia Gotimer of Lynn; former husband of Carolyn McKinley of Chelsea; beloved brother of Brenda Lindsey of Las Vegas, Patricia Moreno of Chelsea and Shirley Abounaja of Revere. He is also survived by eight loving grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Michael DiGiulio

Owner of Sunline Patio and Fireplace of Danvers

Michael D. "Mike" DiGiulio of Wilmington died on December 6 after being stricken at home. He was 61 years old.

Born on July 14, 1948 in Winthrop, the son of Frances C. (Spano) Hafey of East Boston and the late Michael A. DiGiulio, he was raised in East Boston by his mother and late stepfather Albert W. Hafey. He graduated from East Boston High School, Class of 1968. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the US Army, served a tour of duty in Vietnam and received his honorable discharge on September 11, 1972. Before making his home in Wilmington in 1999, he lived in Revere and Peabody.

For the past 13 years, he has been employed as a retail store owner with his wife, Cindy, of Sunline Patio and Fireplace in Danvers. He began his working career as an automobile salesman before becoming a manger for Nissan of Lynnfield and Newton, a position he held for 25 years. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots.

In addition to his wife, Cynthia F. Pallaro of Wilmington and mother, Frances Hafey of East Boston, he is survived by his children, Michael J. DiGiulio and his fiancée, Cassandra Firmbach, of Worcester, Stacey L. Wluka of Easton, Sydney J. DiGilio and Diana R. DiGiullo of Wilmington; his sisters and their spouses, Geraldine A. and Alfredo Rios of Brooklyn, NY and Christiana N. and John Foscaldo of East Boston; five grandchildren, Zachary, Skylar and Jaclyn Wluka of Easton, Lorenzo and Angelo DiGiulio of Worcester, his father and mother in law, Gene P and Lisa Palaro of Saugus, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
