Elena "Helen" (Luongo) Silvestri of East Boston died on October 2.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Silvestri; loving mother of Joseph Silvestri and his wife, Sharon, of Revere and the late Anthony Silvestri; cherished grandmother of Tony, Joey, Mark and Michael Silvestri of Revere and Jacqueline of Atlantic City; great-grandmother of Dylan, Joey, Alexis, Sienna and Alia Silvestri.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 8 at 11 a.m. in The Rapino Memorial Home, 9 Chelsea St. (Maverick Square) East Boston.

 

James Hallahan

Gillette employee

James J. Hallahan of East Boston died on October 3.

An employee of Gillette of South Boston, he was the beloved husband of Carol (Boyan) Hallahan; devoted father of David L. Hallahan of East Boston; dear brother of Joseph Hallahan of East Boston and Ann Follett and her husband, Robert, of Pennsylvania.

A Memorial Mass celebrating his life will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church, Winthrop Street, Winthrop on Thursday, October 8 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Mary A. D’Amico of Saugus, formerly of East Boston, died on October 2.

She was the daughter of the late Gaetano D’Amico and Elizabeth (Stelatto) D’Amico; beloved mother of Michael D’Amico of Saugus; loving sister of Alba Petrillo, Gloria D’Amico Sozio and Elizabeth D’Amico, all of Saugus and the sister of the late Vincent D’Amico.

Atty. John M. Rose of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on October 2.

A US Air Force veteran, he was the beloved father of John M. Rose Jr. and his wife, Galina Savina, of Moscow, Russia and Christopher A. Rose and his wife, Khadine, of London, England and grandfather of John M. Rose III.

Dorothy Froio, 82

Devoted homemaker and housemother

Dorothy M. (Derome) Froio died October 2 at the Lighthouse Nursing Home in Revere where she

had been receiving supportive care for the past four years. She was 82 years old.

A devoted homemaker and housemother, she was born and raised in East Boston, the loving daughter of the late Arthur and Anne (Curry) Derome. At an early age, she worked as a seamstress. She soon married and was a devoted housemother raising her children and keeping her home, clean and caring. At 62 years old, she moved to Bradenton, Florida to enjoy her golden years, Nine years ago she returned to be closer to her son and daughter and lived in Chelsea before moving to the Lighthouse Nursing Home.

The beloved wife of the late Robert A. Froio, she was the devoted mother of Robert J. Froio and his wife, Linda, of Revere, Debra Marks and her husband, John, of Chelsea; cherished grandmother of Cheryl Pacheco, Jennifer Greenwood, Robert Froio, Stacey, Peter and Heidi Aceto, adored great grandmother of 12; dear sister of Arline Sobanek of Chelsea, John Derome of Las Vegas, NV, William Derome of Bradenton Florida and the late Frances Ormond, Ethel Graham, George and Arthur Derome.

Phyllis Falzarano, 67

Former Proprietor of Rita’s Flowers

Phyllis A. (Hines) Falzarano of Salem, NH, formerly of Chelsea, died on October 1. She was 67 years old.

She was the former proprietor of Rita’s Flowers of Chelsea for more than 30 years.

The wife of the late Frank B. "Gypsy Joe" Falzarano, she was the devoted mother of G. Rita Falzarano and husband, Melvin Palma Rivera, of Revere, John W. Falzarano of Salem, NH, and Pasquale B. Falzarano of Lynn; cherished grandmother of Nicholas Falzarano of Salem, NH; dear sister of Corinne M. Comeau of Lancaster, NH, Ronald W. Hines of Mission, TX, Dwight H. Hines of Starke, FL, Francis H. "Chick" Hines of Castaic, CA, Lani Dadmund of Milford, NH, Linda Teague of Canton, MA, Shirley Hines of Braintree, and the late Raymond Hines. She is also lovingly survived by her sisters in law, Lena Buttiglieri of Beverly, Marie "Chickie" Faretra of East Boston, Joanne Dobson of Antioch, CA, Regina Falzarano of Peabody, and the late Rose Ciampolillo and Louise Faretra and by many nieces and nephews.

Pasqualina Sinatra

Of Revere, formerly of East Boston

Pasqualina (Pagliocca) Sinatra of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on September 28.

The beloved wife of the late Joseph Sinatra, she was the loving mother of Frank of California and James of Hawaii; cherished grandmother of Christopher; dear sister of Lena Sordello of Revere, Audre Voci of Wakefield and Anthony Pagliocca of Walpole.

Funeral arrangements were by The Kirby-Rapino Memorial Home, (Orient Heights) East Boston. Entombment was in Woodlawn Mausoleum, Everett. _

Anthony E. Cardone of Saugus, formerly of Malden and Chelsea, died on September 30.

The beloved husband of the late June F. (Martin) Cardone, he was the devoted father of Patricia A. Wood and her husband, David W. Wood, of Saugus and the late Anthony V. Cardone, formerly of Malden; the brother of Lawrence Cardone of Revere, Elizabeth Addivinolia of East Boston, Diana Russo and M. Margie Mamzur, both of Revere, the late Michael Cardone, formerly of Chelsea, and the late Rose Thayer, formerly of Billerica; the cherished grandfather of David Anthony Wood, Michael Russell Wood and Toni June Wood, all of Saugus.

Edith (Sforza) Shindledecker of East Boston, formerly of the North End, died on September 29.

She was the beloved wife of Fred Shindledecker; beloved mother of Libby Patti-Comeiro of Clearwater, FL, and Frank and his wife, Kathy, of East Boston; cherished grandmother of Tanya Parkes and her husband, Nick, of Safety Harbour, FL; great-grandmother of Samantha, Nicholas and Frankie Angelina Parkes.

Wayne Anthony ‘Tony’ Johnson, 39

Died in drowning accident

Wayne Anthony "Tony" Johnson of East Boston died in a drowning accident on September 28. He was 39 years old.

Mr. Johnson most recently worked as a delivery driver for Muzzy’s Florist and also as a carpenter and handyman. He enjoyed playing guitar and cooking for friends and family.

He was the beloved son of Rebecca (Metrick) and Elvan Wayne Johnson of East Boston and Tallahassee, FL. and is also survived by his sister, Desiree Johnson, of East Boston, his longtime love and friend, Nicole Castiello, his half brothers; Nicholas A. Metrick of Rochester, NH, Eugene F. Rector of Bridgewater and Juan Jose Johnson of Batesville, AR and his nephews Alexander McCusker and Michael Ash. He was the nephew of Richard F. Welch and Jenny Exas, both of New Hampshire, and is also survived by many other aunts and uncles in Florida, Georgia and Louisiana.

Funeral Services were held in the Magrath Funeral Home on Saturday, October 3.

 

Joseph Marchesi Sr.

Of Woburn, formerly of East Boston

Joseph T. Marchesi Sr. of Woburn, formerly of East Boston, died on September 29.

A US Navy veteran of World War II, he was the beloved husband of Mary A. (Lerro) Marchesi; devoted father of Diane Walbourne and her husband, Leo, of Woburn and Joseph T. Marchesi Jr. of Peabody; dear brother of Margaret Scimone of Melrose and the late Francis Marchesi and Natalie Cefalo; loving grandfather of Daniel and Derek Walbourne and Joseph and Jarrod Marchesi and the late Kimberly Walbourne.

Ralph Stauff Jr.

Of Florida, formerly of East Boston

Ralph T. Stauff Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of East Boston, died recently.

He was the devoted son of the late Leona ( McMahon) and Ralph T. Stauff Sr.; beloved brother of Leona Valenti, Corinne Grimes , Janet Cooper and Nancy Fountain, all of East Boston, Michael and his wife, Rosemary Stauff, of Boston, Donald and his wife, Cheryl Stauff, of Seattle Wash., and Robert and his wife, Maria Stauff, of Melrose. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends invited to attend a visitation with his family from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, concluding with a Memorial Service at the Magrath Funeral Home, 325 Chelsea Street [at Day Square] East Boston. Catherine Pelosi, 87

Of Florida, formerly of East Boston

Catherine "Kay" (O’Brien) Pelosi of Englewood, Florida, originally of East Boston, died September 21 in The Port Health Care Center in Newburyport. She was 87 years old.

She was the wife of the late Angelo "Babe" Pelosi to whom she was married for 67 years. She leaves her children, Vito and his wife, Kathy, of Englewood, Florida, John and his wife, Judy, of Salem, Marguerite Strickland of Newburyport, Larry and his wife, Leila, of Chelmsford, Kathy Peabody and her husband, Jim, of Marblehead, and Richard and his wife, Nancy, of Davie, Florida. She also leaves 16 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all. She was the sister of the late John O’Brien, Mary Salerno, Margaret DeStefano, William O’Brien, Thomas O’Brien, Rita Jones and Lawrence O’Brien.

Father Kenneth Garofalo OFM, 80

Served at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in East Boston

Father Kenneth P. Garofalo OFM of East Boston and Boston’s North End died on September 29. He was 80 years old.

He was the beloved son of the late Philip and Sophie (Misiaszek) Garofalo; dear brother of Elaine Dzik, of Coconut Grove, Florida and the late Domenic Garofalo.

Fr. Kenneth’s ministries include the Church of St. Leonard and the former Christopher Columbus High School in the North End, the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in East Boston and the Church of St. Francis in Cambridge.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in the Chapel of Saint Francis Friary/ Franciscan Center, Andover, MA. with burial in the Friars’ Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to The Rapino Memorial Home 617-567-1380.__

 

Arline Gallant

Of Nevada, formerly of East Boston

Arline M. ( Szymanski) Gallant of Nevada, formerly of East Boston, died on September 24.

She was the beloved wife of Miles Gallant; loving mother of Jeffrey; cherished daughter of Stanley and Joan (McWilliams) Szymanski of East Boston; sister of Carol Brandenburg, and her husband, Keith, of Saugus and Stephen Szymanski of Peabody; aunt of Keith, Jill and Steven and is also survived by four grandnephews.

Arrangements were by the Magrath Funeral Home, East Boston. A Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date.

 

Richard Keven Robert Malone, 26

Carpenter

Richard Keven Robert Malone of East Boston died unexpectedly on September 27. He was 26 years old.

Born in Malden and a resident of Chelsea for many years, he was a carpenter by trade.

He was the devoted son of Rustee Malone of East Boston; beloved father of Brianna Goodrich and Morgan Malone, both of East Boston; cherished grandson of Ann Carroll of Revere; step-brother of John Feeley of East Boston and is also lovingly survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins and friends.
