Paul Imperato, 77

Retired Railroad Conductor

Paul Imperato of Revere died on September 17 at the Hammersmith Nursing Care Center in Saugus. He was 77 years old.

A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a former railroad conductor.

He was the beloved husband of the late Maria (Ranno); devoted father of Paul Imperato and Daniel Imperato, both of Florida, and Marian Sposito of Revere; dear brother of Dolly Fici of Quincy; and he is also survived by a loving granddaughter, Kristin Cincotti.

Vincenza Aresco

East Boston resident

Vincenza (Rosa) Aresco of East Boston died on September 20.

She was the beloved wife of the late Vittorio Aresco; loving mother of Angelo and his wife, Rosa, of East Boston, Sebastiano "Yano" and his wife, Paula, of Stoneham, Anthony "Tony Tomato" and his wife, Kathy, of North Reading, Carmelo and his wife, MaryAnn, of Winthrop, William and his wife, Kerry, of New Hampshire, Joseph of East Boston, John of East Boston, Frank of Malden, Richard of East Boston, Anna Aresco Pisaturo and her husband, Louie, of Revere, the late Salvatore and his surviving wife, Ellen, of Revere, the late Augustino "Gus" and the late Robert; cherished grandmother of 23 and great-grandmother of 13. She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers in Italy.

Her funeral will be held from the Rapino Memorial Home, 9 Chelsea St., (Maverick Square), East Boston, on Thursday at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Brooks Street, East Boston, at 10 a.m. The family will receive visitors today, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Charles Reagan, 90

Railroad employee; presented Key to the City of Manchester, NH

Charles J. "Charlie" Reagan of Manchester, NH died September 16 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. He was 90 years old.

Mr. Reagan was born May 7, 1919 in East Boston, son of Charles A. and Anna (Forster) Reagan. He was raised in East Boston and graduated from Boston English High School in 1937. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, having served as a technical sergeant from 1942 to 1947. He graduated from Northeastern University in 1956.

He began a long career in the railroad industry with Boston and Albany Railroad in 1948, followed by Rutland Railroad and joined the Boston and Maine Railroad in 1963, where he was employed until his retirement in 1987 with 39 years of service to the industry. He lived in Manchester, NH since 1965.

Mr. Reagan was an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, where he was an usher and currently on the finance council. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Marion Council 5748, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the American Legion Henry J. Sweeney Post 2, Manchester.

He and his wife have been active in the Manchester Community for more than 40 years. Together, they served as Eucharistic ministers at St. Catherine of Siena Church and were active in many other ministries there. They were also active at The Palace Theater, where he served as house manager.

He was a Granite State Ambassador and was named ambassador of the year twice. A 70-year member of the Knights of Columbus and a Fourth Degree Knight of the Bishop Bradley Assembly 626, Manchester, he served as RSVP program director under various state deputies and was active in ceremonials, both local and on the state level. He served as district deputy from 1988 through 1992.

At his 90th birthday celebration on September 6, 2009, Mr. Reagan was awarded the key to the city by Mayor Frank Guinta.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Georgina (O’Brien) Reagan; three children and their families, Marie (Reagan) Brinson and her husband, Lonnie, of Deerfield, NH, Joseph Reagan and his wife, Kim, of Hooksett, NH and George Reagan of Dover, NH; three grandsons, Charles D. Reagan, Sean F. Reagan and Colin D. Brinson; his sister, Winifred (Forster) McDonald of Saugus; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral arrangements are by the Goodwin Funeral Home, 607 Chestnut Street, corner of Harrison Street, Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today, Wednesday, September 23, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 207 Hemlock Street, at the corner of, Webster Street. The Rev. Paul Montminy will be celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow in New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 N. Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen, NH.

Anne Tulipani

Of Malden, formerly of East Boston

Anne R. (Flaherty) Tulipani) of Malden, formerly of Winthrop and East Boston, died September 20 at the Hammersmith House Nursing Care Center, Saugus, after a long illness.

Born in Norwalk, Conn., daughter of the late Carrie (Hendricks) and Edward Flaherty, she was a longtime resident of Winthrop and East Boston. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a secretary by the John Hancock Insurance Company. She was a Past Venerable of the Winthrop Ladies Lodge Order of Sons of Italy.

She was the former wife of the late Joseph Tulipani; devoted mother of Joanne and Richard Italiano of Saugus, Robert and Diane Tulipani of Melrose, Irene and Paul Cyr of North Billerica, Gina and Stuart Mercer of Somerville and the late Joseph Tulipani. The dear sister of Carol Selinski of New York, she is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be conducted from the Ernest P. Caggiano & Son Funeral Home, 147 Winthrop St., Winthrop, Thursday, at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Adeline Justice, 85

East Boston resident

Adeline (D’Agostino) Justice of East Boston died on September 15. She was 85 years old.

She was the wife of the late George Justice, daughter of the late Anthony and Virginia (Passanati) D’Agostino and sister of the late Norma and Walter D’Agostino. She is also survived by her dear brother, Anthony D’Agostino, of Saugus.

A graveside service was held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, with arrangements by the Rapino Memorial Home of East Boston.

 

Kathleen Arsenault

Died in East Boston

Kathleen (Kenney) Arsenault died in East Boston on September 17.

She was the beloved wife of the late Francis E. "Frank" Arsenault; mother of Harold Arsenault and his wife, Mary, of California; sister of George Kenney of East Boston and the late Patricia Regan, Harold, William, Francis, Charles and Paul Kenney; grandmother of Heather Arsenault of California; and the aunt of many.

Philip O’Connell, 86

Retired Boston Police Officer

Philip A. O’Connell of East Boston died on September 18 in Quincy, after a long illness. He was 86 years old.

A retired Boston police officer and a US Navy veteran of World War II, he is lovingly survived by his wife, Mary L. (DiMauro) O’Connell, of Quincy, and his daughter, Marie A. (O’Connell) Grimaldi and her husband, Joseph, of Quincy, and his cherished grandson, Marc Grimaldi, also of Quincy. He also leaves his dear sister, Anna Tinsman, of Virginia, and many nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Phillip Patrick O’Connell and Mary Josephine (Foxe) O’Connell, brother of the late Maurice and Joseph O’Connell and Mary Margaret Love.

His funeral will be held from the Rapino Memorial Home, 9 Chelsea St., East Boston today, Wednesday, September 23, at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Brooks Street, East Boston, at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Phyllis Gautreau, 85

Phyllis C. (Bruno) Gautreau of Wakefield, formerly of Malden and East Boston, died on September 17. She was 85 years old.

She was the beloved wife of the late Robert L. Gautreau; devoted mother of Rita Gautreau and her partner, Kathy Ahern, of Salisbury, Carol Gage of Marshfield and her partner, Richard Donovan, Theresa Gautreau of Craig, Colo. and her partner, Steve Penfold, retired Maj. Joseph R. Gautreau, USMC, and his wife, Jean, of Poway, Calif., Louise Bellucci and her husband, Ken, of North Reading and Robert L. Gautreau Jr. of Wakefield; loving grandmother of Linda, Joseph, William, Matthew, Jenna, Michelle; great-grandmother of seven; and beloved sister of Arthur Bruno of Dedham.

A graduate of East Boston High School, Class of 1948, she was the beloved wife of William "Bill" Brown; devoted mother of Ashley and Amanda Brown, both of Revere; loving daughter of Daniel and Dorothy Ann (Durante) Curran of Revere; dear sister of the late Daniel Shawn Curran and his wife, Alison, and their children, Alex and Michael, all of Hadley. Joseph "Joe" Assenzo of Everett died on September 15.

A US Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the DAV and VFW and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus 97.

He was the beloved husband of the late Josephine (Ciulla); father of Dennis and his wife, Susan, of Wakefield and Patricia Pastori and her husband, Joe, of Medford; brother of Anna Sinagra of the North End, Camille Renzulli of East Boston, Lena Assenza of the North End, Jennie Ruotalo of Chelsea and the late Mary Riley-Assenza. He is also survived by five grandchildren: David, Brian, Lauren, Michael, Ashley, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy T. (Guarino) Fiorino of Revere, formerly of Roxbury and Dorchester, died on September 17.

She was the beloved wife of Phillip W. Fiorino, with whom she shared 33 years of marriage; dear sister of Patrick Guarino of Revere and his late wife, Annmarie, Vincent Guarino of Las Vegas, Evelyn Climo and her husband, Fred, of Weymouth and the late Theresa Rego, John Guarino and Gerard "Buddy" Guarino; and the fond aunt of many.

Claire M. O’Keefe of Revere, formerly of East Boston, died on September 4.

A former employee of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and a member of the Boston Police Emerald Society, she was the beloved sister of Maureen McGunigle of Mesa, Ariz. and companion of Thomas M. Brown of the Boston Police Department.

Modesto Vasquez, 74

Tenor and Retired Banquet Manager

Modesto Vasquez of East Boston died September 13. He was 74 years old.

Born on June 15, 1935, in Valparaiso, Chile, he married Luz Eliana Palma and lived in San Felipe, Chile for many years until coming to the United States in 1970. He was a retired banquet manager of Sage Hotels, a former tenor for the San Felipe Polyphonic Chorus and an avid billiards and chess player. He loved hunting and fishing.

He leaves behind his wife, Eliana, and their five children: Laura Vasquez and her husband, Waldo Parra, Monica Vasquez and Rossanna Vasquez, all of San Felipe, Chile, Victor Vasquez and his wife, Paula Shelly, and Aldo Vasquez and his wife, Giselle Boucher. He is the cherished grandfather of 12 and the uncle of many.

Raymond B. "Bunzo" Panzini of Everett, formerly of East Boston, died on September 15.

He was the beloved husband of the late Nora (Romano); loving father of Jeannie Buccheri and her husband, William, of Tennessee, Patrick Panzini and his wife, Constance, of Peabody and Lisa Phifer and her husband, Brian, of Amesbury; beloved brother of Chicki, Tommy and Eddie Panzini and the late Leonard, Johnnie and Pasquale. He is also survived by five beloved grandchildren: Eric, Paul, Jessica, Christopher and Erica.

Jim Hawco

Business owner

Jim (James) Hawco, formerly of Winthrop, died on September 10 after a seven- month battle with cancer.

Mr. Hawco was a 37-year resident of Florida and a USAF communications radio operator/communications. He owned and operated his own business in the spindle motors and printed circuit board industry for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Gamgene) Hawco of Port Charlotte, Florida. He was the son of Louis and Winifred (Connors) Hawco; brother of the late Mary Robinson of Maryland, Loretta English of Winthrop, Lillian Simmons of San Antonio, Texas, Louis Hawco of Winthrop, Anna Acone of Winthrop and Paul Hawco of Oregon and is survived by his siblings, Tom Hawco of Lincoln, Nebraska, Cecelia Belliveau of Largo, Florida, and Fran Wall of Winthrop, Karen Corbett and her husband, Deane, of Arizona, Kathy Corbett and Larry of North Carolina, and Joyce Billet and husband, Brian, of Vienna, Virginia. He is also remembered by many nieces nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a great-grandson.

Services will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, Port Charlotte, on September 26 at 11 a.m. Prayers for this good man are requested.

 

Elisa O’Neil, 80

Avid gardener

Elisa M. (Palange) O’Neil of Windsor Locks, Connecticut, died on September 13 at St. Francis Hospital. She was 80 years old.

Mrs. O’Neil moved to Windsor Locks in 1961 and previously lived in East Boston. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church, a member of the Windsor Locks Senior Center and an avid gardener who enjoyed both shopping and cooking.

The wife of the late Robert W. O’Neil, she is survived by her two daughters, Nancy O’Neil and her fiance, Louis Giannasca, of Arlington, Laura Luca and her husband, Vincent, of Newport Beach, California, and her siblings, Albert Palange of Minnesota, Esther Gentile of Florida, Gloria Gerard of California, Eleanor Carnabuci and Matthew Palange, both of Massachusetts, 11 nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks.

A member of Bunker Hill Council 62 Knights of Columbus, he was the beloved husband of Madeline A. (Carroll) Silvestri and the devoted father of Donna Incerti and Anthony P. Silvestri, both of Wakefield, Dolores Sullivan of Dedham, Madelyn Caggiano of East Boston, Albert H. Silvestri of Saugus and Mary Intonti of Peabody. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.

She was the beloved wife of the late Domenic, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage; loving mother of Ronald Pardi and his wife, Evelyn, and Diana McManus and her husband, James A. "Tony," all of Saugus; dear sister of Catherine Morico of Peabody and James Mancuso of Florida; cherished grandmother of Christine Oliva, Michael Pardi and Danielle, Sean, Lauren and Ryan McManus; and great- grandmother of Alysa and Mia Oliva.

Angelo Grosso, 94

Decorated veteran, POW, DAV member

Angelo A. Grosso of Malden died suddenly on September 9. He was 94 years old.

A US Army veteran of World War II, 101 Infantry Division and a prisoner of war (POW) who was awarded the Bronze Star, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
